Paying Honest Attention

Put the kettle on and sit back and enjoy this quiet little film about Anne Mette Hjortshøj, an eloquent Danish potter living on the island of Bornholm. She talks about the responsibilities of a potter; ‘We’ve enough things in this world…so you have to think very carefully when you put something into the kiln’, and well as the magic of ceramics, ‘It’s just mud. It’s just clay. A bit of wood ash and fire and quartz…it’s very basic material’. She likes ‘quiet pots. I ilke to make quiet pots’….

Animation Oscar Nominees

I’m so impressed with the character design, rendering and execution of all these films up for an Oscar tonight in the animated feature film category…

Brave, directed by Mark Andrews and Brenda Chapman, a story set in Scotland…

Tim Burton‘s ‘Frankenweenie‘, a stop-motion, black and white re-telling of ‘Frankenstein’…

Sam Fell and Chris Butler‘s ‘ParaNorman‘…

Peter Lord of Aardman Animations‘ ’The Pirates! Band of Misfits‘..

Rich Moore‘s Wreck-It Ralph

…who knows, maybe I’m warming to digital animation after all…!?!
