This collage started with a photograph I found at the weekly flea market in Valencia, the Rastro, along with some ancient books and a magazine from the 1930s. The vintage labels, one from a pharmacy, added something else, and then the negative image of two women came from a museum catalogue, and a mystery evolved. Who were these people, and who belonged to that remarkable signature, found in an old, yellowing book? So many stories, so many mysteries, within a small, paper collage...
ORIGINAL ART WORK
These are handmade, living pieces, many with overhanging elements from the collage assembly and the pieces are mounted in a slightly raised fashion (so as to appear floating) above a white, acid-free matte. We use Museum Glass, specially coated to make the viewing of the art completely glare and reflection-free (it looks like there is no glass; all you see is the artwork), as well as being 92% UV filtering (a very important feature, due to the use of fragile, paper ephemera).
Similarly, the prints are designed to include a digital bright white surround “matte” to allow the piece to "float". They are Giclee printed on thick archival, acid-free 189GSM paper. A digital signature by Shelley is included.
Although the originals vary in size, we try to find the closest print size to represent the original work, and the matte increases that size by approximately 1" on each side.
Paper thickness: 10.3 mil (0.26 mm)
Paper weight: 5.57 oz/yd² (189 g/m²)
Giclée printing quality
ISO brightness: 104%
