Ensayo began with a torn piece of a Franco era reproduction poster found in the streets of Valencia (was it posted there for a film shoot, perhaps?). I liked the 1930s typography (but not the Fascist message). A black and white postcard depicting flamenco dancers added a bit more Spanish drama to the poster fragment, and the cardboard packaging I found gave me some unusual shapes to add to the vibrant whole.
ORIGINAL ART WORK
These are handmade, living pieces, many with overhanging elements from the collage assembly and the pieces are mounted in a slightly raised fashion (so as to appear floating) above a white, acid-free matte. We use Museum Glass, specially coated to make the viewing of the art completely glare and reflection-free (it looks like there is no glass; all you see is the artwork), as well as being 92% UV filtering (a very important feature, due to the use of fragile, paper ephemera).
Similarly, the prints are designed to include a digital bright white surround “matte” to allow the piece to "float". They are Giclee printed on thick archival, acid-free 189GSM paper. A digital signature by Shelley is included.
Although the originals vary in size, we try to find the closest print size to represent the original work, and the matte increases that size by approximately 1" on each side.
Paper thickness: 10.3 mil (0.26 mm)
Paper weight: 5.57 oz/yd² (189 g/m²)
Giclée printing quality
ISO brightness: 104%
