Marella
Marella
This 3D collage is built with a bold rhythm of details, starting with the 1953 portrait by Richard Avedon of Italian heiress and fashion icon, Marella Agnelli (his own personal proof to her, with hand-written notes by Avedon), to the snip of grey cloudburst by John Constable ('Cloud Study', 1864), and the black and white layering of ink, typography, metal, marble, pinstripe textile and Victorian embossing. A photo spread of a swirling Dior 'New Look' skirt anchors this composition in the era of 1950's fashion, with its lush, angular and very dramatic designs.
This mixed media collage is a 3-dimensional work, built up from paint chips, vintage hand-written letters, copies of textile fragments, scraps of brightly coloured paint palettes and black ink drawings. Shelley likes building up surfaces, starting with a cardboard structure, and then adding elements until they take on an architectural quality, giving the viewer a peek down a hidden corner of colour, a hallway of intrigue, typography, textiles and pattern to tell its story.
ORIGINAL ART WORK
These are handmade, living pieces, many with overhanging elements from the collage assembly and the pieces are mounted in a slightly raised fashion (so as to appear floating) above a white, acid-free matte. We use Museum Glass, specially coated to make the viewing of the art completely glare and reflection-free (it looks like there is no glass; all you see is the artwork), as well as being 92% UV filtering (a very important feature, due to the use of fragile, paper ephemera).
PRINTS
Features:
Heavyweight, white, premium matte paper which has a natural, smooth uncoated finish that feels luxurious to the touch. The 200GSM/80lb paper weight makes it durable and long-lasting.
We use FSC-certified paper or equivalent certifications depending on regional availability.
Please note: Paper sizes may vary slightly by region. For the US and Canada, the measurement is in inches, while for the rest of the world, it is in centimeters.
Although the originals vary in size, we try to find the closest print size to represent the original work, and the matte increases that size by approximately 3/4" on each side.
FRAMED PRINTS
The white frame is made from pine, is 20-25mm /0.79"-0.98" thick and 10-14mm /0.4"-0.6" wide, providing the perfect balance of durability and style. To keep your print looking its best, we use shatterproof, transparent plexiglass to protect it from damage. Importantly, the print is ready to hang as it is delivered within the frame, using the matte paper described above. We include hanging hardware with every order, making it easy to mount in horizontal or vertical orientations.
Each poster and frame is shipped in robust packaging, ensuring it arrives in pristine condition. More shipping info can be found in the FAQ section.
